And so we agree on FALLING
"If you have a history of jumping in and out of relationships quickly; if you believe you cannot live without a man; if the time between relationships feels like a living hell, then you may be the problem.
Desperate people behave in desperate ways. They do things that ordinarily they would not do. They tend to overreact because of feelings taken to the extreme. They have strong swings of emotions and have difficulty keeping their feelings under control. This leads them into all kinds of problems. When feelings lead the way, instead of good thinking, you can be sure that the way will be difficult and unpredictable.
Whirlwind courtships usually end up in stormy waters. The reason being that love relationships are serious matters that calls for some serious thought and a good control of feelings. Strong feelings can easily cloud the thought process. This is why we often make the wrong decisions in life. Our head tells us to move in this direction, but because of feelings we move in the opposite direction and things don’t work out. We knew what we had to do but did not do it. "
Whoever. Whatever. As long as it's Better
Good thing I have flexible working hours at the office or else I’m screwed. Unfortunately, Mitch’s hour is more fixed so after picking him up at his street, we both knew he will be a little bit late than usual. Not to worry, I had a good non-rebuttable excus. Harvey.
So, I got to the office with a purely “zombic” state and ate the apple pie I was supposed to eat at lunch. I read the online newspapers and tried to carry on. Apparently the glaring international and even local news is all about US elections. Obama is leading 4 to 6 states comparatively. His face is all over the news sites, which could be considered a silent cheer for his nearing victory. I guess it’s going to be America’s FIRST amidst the crisis. It might be the Democrat's rule. I just wish him well.
With already so much political conundrums in our plate, Filipinos can still participate or vocalize their preferences in the heated presidential elections of a country we so depend on. The changes that the future US administration will bring would either way affect its relations to the Philippines, politically and economically wise. Since our flourishing businesses depend on our biggest trading partner and our onshore counterpart we should all pray that the change involves us in a more positve outlook. Democrats among Democrats alike, that should be interesting. But according to the report Filipinos are generally neutral to the future results.
According to the result published in Manila Times, 76% of Filipinos do not care whoever wins because it won’t have a direct affect to the Philippines. Politics is politics and what matters most is the promise of a decent future whether a democrat or a republican is at the helm.
Although according to the same survey, Filipinos still nurse preferences. Obama rated higher than McCain in the trust rating. McCain gained a poor trust rate of net minus 15%. In Metro Manila, 21% favor Obama compared to McCain’s 12%. Also in categories, Obama faired much better. College students liked Obama more than McCain.
But frankly I wasn’t surprised to find out that Obama fared better here in terms of gauging Filipinos’ preference. A lot of independent thinkers like Obama for his more realistic and justified reforms. Obama is known to be bolder, young and very driven as opposed to McCain’s traditional ways that we’ve seen too much in Bush. It’s true that we all want change and I see it more on Obama, new Face, fresh perspectives with a more youthful jive to it. Since preference is balled up in one huge complex criterion, it might be due to his broad perspectives in life, his natural diversity and his flair for keeping audience hooked in speeches.
Just like others if given the ultimate choice to participate in a vote, I might vote for Obama, but until then I would just have to wait and see. Whoever wins, what’s more important is the bottom line, food at our table, competitive businesses and global harmony. I guess in that note, I belong to the neutral Filipinos. But Politics aside, good luck to whoever wins.
Harvey Updates
I remember Tracy Sugay, who also just got herself a Shih Tzu (which answers to the name Malibu), telling me that it's so hard to take care of a dog, yet there's no denying that it's very rewarding. I've also seen Mitch take care of his Labrador (Rocky) and at some point injuring his finances. Dogs may be man's best friends but they also need a lot of attention in forms of training, medical and physical. All of these are equally important to his basic needs. You have to buy good dog food, which costs if the particular dog is huge and a certified heavy eater. There are also numerous vaccine shots and medication bills just to keep your dog alive and immune to diseases. There is also the need for accessories and toiletries to keep him comfortable and clean. I tell you, money will always be important and disposable to them.
There's also a considerable amount of preparation to be done by the owner. For instance, I already swallowed the thought that I'd be the one cleaning his shit, arranging his stuff and making sure his living conditions are great, if not "fantabulous." All expenses, effort and timing may be off, but knowing that it's for the creature that brings me happiness, it's all worth it.
Speaking of tiring myself out, I've just been from Bags' house after a spontaneous hang out. I took Harvey with me and he played with Dee Dee, Bags' adult Mini-Pinscher. He even played fetch and fooled around with his chew toy when at around 11 his energy waned down like an inflated balloon that he began to sleep at my lap even if Anton and Bags were distracting him. Poor thing. I decided it was time to go home.
As soon as we arrived I felt Harvey craving for sleep so I immediately made preparations for him. After setting his bed and offering him water, my reward was a poop in his very own fatigue-designed bed. As much as I wanted to scream and hit him with something, I just cleaned it sourly. I could've cursed him to death and locked him in the bathroom, but how could I?! Instead I just cleaned the damn thing and put him where he's supposed to sleep (Cleaned and unsoiled), with blankets and everything. I petted him and waited for him to shut his eyes before I left.
Ugh.
Gosh, my eyes are drooping and I still have a big day tomorrow. I also have lots of things that I want to post. Why I named him Harvey. Why Jack Russell of all more popular breeds. All about his breed. My dog ownership history. If you would by any chance find the next couple of posts are about Harvey, well just indulge me. This is a rare opportunity in my life. I would do as much as to treasure it.
Harvey's First Post
I was busy cleaning my files when Mitch called while he was on his way home from the church. He asked me if I wanted to get my dog. Knowing how many times we tried and failed, I was so tired to expect anymore. I plainly said yes without any thought of taking it seriously. But Mitch told me to get ready and we would leave for West Ave. QC to finally get my Harvey.
The excitement didn't settle in until we reached Edsa and almost flew to West Ave. Good thing there was no heavy traffic. From Makati with a couple of missed turns, we got at the Kennel at around 15-20 minutes. I didn't even feel the journey.
As I went in, I didn't know how to react nor what to expect. I was excited, anxious and very nervous. The owner's gracious wife brought out a small cage with three cute 2 1/2 months Jack Russell Terrier Pups for the picking. The spotless one was female and the face-marked JRTS are males. I was rooting for a boy so I could finally call it Harvey. I've been reserving that name for months of endless searching for that perfect dog.
I could've picked any, but this one particular dog stayed facing me all the time. He was unlike his brother whose attention flew around and didn't even try to recognize me as much as Harvey did. So I knew the obvious choice. Mitch paid, got the papers and BOOM. I officially have my very own dog.
IN the car, Harvey was shaking, but that was normal. As I pet him, I couldn't actually believe that I'd be caring for a live entity. But I've always wanted a dog. I've been harassing Mitch ever since. We both searched, called a few breeders and missed out due to drastic schedules. November 1st, on an unassuming and planned day, I celebrated my anniversary and got my very own dog.
As we headed for Tiendesitas, Mitch kept proclaiming his expectations on me in dog-rearing. He wanted to make sure that it was what I really wanted (as if there's anything good to do about it) and I would devote my attention to it. I strongly promised and I was off to Lalaland.
In Tiendesitas, I carried him as we searched for his pet food, pet accessories and pet bed. His food was hard to find, harnesses don't fit him and everything was damn too expensive. Good thing Mitch enabled his charming skills and got almost everything we needed from 1 store plus got a discount. We got everything and I never realized how expensive it was to care for a pup like him, who looks so unassuming and rugged. In Tiendesitas when I tried to let him walk on his own, he wouldn't listen to me and wander off nibbling things, but what can you expect on racy fur balls like him?
I was so tired of roaming around, chasing him with all the new anxiety, when we still went to Fort to pick up my cousin's party cupcakes. In Fort we walked Harvey at Boni High and received a couple of praising and cute remarks from people and dog lovers. Even a hot female foreigner stopped by and asked to scoop Harvey. I didn't mind as long as the dog's still comfortable. I'm the last one to back down. I'm super proud of my dog. He's behaved but still very curious, which are traits that I like.
Upon arriving at the village, I introduced him to Mitch's family and mine as his inauguration as a Southern JRT. Everyone loves him, well...almost...especially if he poops in the garden.
In the morning, JD and Harvey played at the other lot and it was when I saw Harvey run and be a naturally spirited JRT. Since JRTs are active dogs destined for hunting, they're naturally very fast, agile and very vigilant with their surroundings. They like dirt and digging. But like any puppy, his energy plummeted a few minutes of hard play...just like the adult me. But we were scheduled to accompany Mitch to Fort and in a few minutes he picked us up for another round of Fort strolling.
In the Afternoon, I was feeling the daze-tired because I didn't get any decent sleep last Saturday night. Still, duty calls for the planned cookout and I devoted my time to cooking. But it's funny, every minute I miss Harvey. He is such a cute pet project that I'm willing to see success from. Even now, at work, I miss him horribly.
JRTs are so adorable. They might not be the most attractive dog in the world, but they have the finest and strongest muscular structure and coat. Not to mention, they're highly intelligent and courageous. Traits I value more above anything else. Not to sound like a stage mother, but on his first day, he learned how to get out of the harness and play fetch.
I have so many great plans for Harvey. I just hope everything turns out well. Forget about the GASTOS, as long as I'm happy and he's happy. Harvey is such a test and happiness to me all rolled into one.
Month ender Oct 31st
There are a few moments in life worth relishing. A good conversation entertaining fresh perspectives over a sumptuous dinner and dessert and a birth of a new project, all done in the last day of the month giving way to November 1st, my favorite holiday.
That was just what I did with my friend Tim who happened to have taken the most recent bar exams and eventually survived mentally “unscathed.” I left him alone in those times that he was intently studying. It was a "law thing" and I just silently hoped to resume our restaurant hopping.
Thinking of so many places, we ended up in Greenbelt on a Halloween Friday night. We chose based on commercial ratings and level of intrigue. We knew instantly the perfect restaurant to test. The moment we entered John and Yoko’s cosmopolitan restaurant in Greenbelt 5, I exchanged pleasantries and immediately reminded him of his promised free legal service to me. It was a way of saying that my faith in my friends is that strong.
It was a habit for us to eat at new restaurants. We never go to the same restaurant twice. If ever we did, that was out of desperation and I couldn’t remember it. For a guy, he appreciates desserts and we discuss over it, as ambitious as it may sound. Privately, we enjoy ourselves as the ultimate food critics. Although there’s more danger if one of us recommends a restaurant out of experience, the expectations are way higher.
So we discussed about as usual, Law. Blah blah Blah. I specifically love his tales of bar examiners going bonkers in the middle of the test. I also love our discussion of the last will and testament while scrutinizing our food in between.
He ordered the Mango-Chicken pizza and I ordered the Fried Squid Linguini. My linguini was okay. It has a more sour and distinct taste because of the seaweed garnish, but still equally creamy and with an appropriate serving. But I must admit, I was blown away with his. HIs choice of a pizza was weirdly amusing. The first bite instantly reminded me of Jollibee’s Mango Peach pie, but a couple of chews made it taste more of like a Yellow Cab Corona chicken pizza. I just like the instantaneous swift from sweet to savory. Also, considering that the restaurant is located in Greenbelt 5 and it specializes in cosmopolitan Japanese cuisine, the prices are relatively cheaper. My pasta cost 195 and his pizza was around 250. Add up the service charge and VAT which summed up our total bill of around 600 bucks. Not that bad for good service, relatively good food and chic interiors. But luckily we were already there 10 minutes earlier before being put on the waiting list. On a Thursday night, the restaurant is packed. It was that popular, so during dinner and lunch times especially on weekends, you’d better come in early or do the traditional reservations.
After cleaning our plates, it belonged to our list of restaurants we’d love to visit again (although not with each other). Again it's not our habit, most probably I'll take Mitch here.
Knowing each other, we never end the day with dinner. We go for the much awaited finale, which is dessert. Since John and Yoko didn’t have the Ice Cream Pie Tim really wanted to have, we decided to transfer. While walking we were discussing our new literary project until we spotted a quaint place with cozy seats and elite-Filipino interiors in Restaurante Pia Y Damaso. Anyone who has ever spent his/her High school years studying here would know that the restaurant is named after a major character in Jose Rizal’s novel Noli Me Tangere. True enough the restaurant showcases dishes with Filipino touch. Rich Cheesecake with a dayap (lime) as a feature ingredient, chocolate cakes named after characters in the book and sumptuous dishes served elegantly. There is this one cake that is named SISA (Dementia), which neither of us had the guts to try due to possible high caloric intake or a repeat of the very dazed Amazonian-beans Ganache effect we had in Max Brenner 4 years ago.
That's just how we roll. We shifted restaurants yet we still continued our endless literary expeditions. We were brainstorming just like any editor or writer working while dining out. We tested each others’ theories and began thinking about possible plot developments. The conversation was indeed a surge of creativity, which in some point a little bit draining, but wouldn't have it the other way.
I never realized how powerful creativity, good conversation and chemistry are. The right mixture keeps everything flowing magnificently. Both people might have excellent levels of creativity. Both might be very conversant, but if the rapport or chemistry isn’t there, then everything would fall apart. Good thing we know each other so well and that we don’t trample on our own creative pursuits.

Attempt to Make everything Real - Delayed Post
Anyways, this morning I found this on my hard drive. I wrote this last Friday with due credit to Manila Times. This really made me laugh and I can't afford to miss posting this.
I'm on a roll. I'm loving the start of the week already.
ATTEMPT TO MAKE EVERYTHING REAL...and COMPLICATED:
Oct. 31
Oh gosh. I may not be a voracious comic book or manga reader, but I really know what it was like to “LOVE” a 2 dimensional character, yes a cartoon. I was so badly in love with Kurama aka Dennis in YUYU Hakusho (Dennis) when I was in 4th year high school that it took my classmate a few weird rantings to get immune to my Dennis fantasies; and coming from an all-girls’ school, impossible attachment to the uncommon was highly forgivable.
I collectED text images, internet materials and fantasy proses. I recorded every YuYu Hakusho series and religiously keept notes on dialogues and character developments. I learned how to draw. I memorized Japanese songs. I even vowed to pay my Aunt's services who is fluent in Nihonggo to teach me, as if I’d be speaking to Kurama soon. I got another aunt, who is good at cross stitching, to stitch three YUYU Hakusho characters and ship it from Cebu. I engaged in long phone conversations with school mates, not to talk about boy crushes, but to talk about Kurama and the Anime. I bought a CD by Blessed Union of Souls just because GMA-7 did a montage about YuYu Hakusho where I saw Kurama fighting, and I nearly broke down from surging emotions. In my boring classes like Trigonometry or Physics, I would play “TAKE ON ME” by A-HA in my head while imagining the suave Kurama, in a suit with dazzling pair of emerald eyes, entering boldly and whisking me away to his world via jet or Ferrari. I did what I could to feel closer to him. People think it was stupid. My classmates thought it was funny, but harmless still. My sister was disgraced and my parents never bothered to ask me of it, lest they confirm I should be put into therapy. All in all they would say that it's just a phase with silent hopes for finding my cure in college as soon as I could interact with massive people and be forced to widen my network.
True enough, when I stepped into college, my obsession waned down. It was probably because of my new found world in the magnificent library of DLSU. I figured I was so attached to my own obsession that I completely forgot to try other things. IN short, my anime love wasn’t as feverish as before. I don’t collect internet materials or record stuff anymore (most I already have recorded anyways). I continued on with my life, still oblivious with boys, but overly expanding my meaningful network, through books and vast fiction. I caught up on my other readings and tried to live an obsession-free life for quite some time. I don’t even think about Anime often, although my batchmates in high school couldn’t stop reminiscing my anime days for me. I don’t deny it, though. I’m still fond of the phase I emerged from, but it’s all just a memory. It was indeed a phase after all.
That’s why when I read this news in ManilaTimes that a “Japanese man has enlisted hundreds of people in a campaign to allow marriages between humans and cartoon characters,” I got amused rather than disgusted. I know what this man is going through. To love a 2 dimensional character is not much of a difference to loving a real person. It showcases the same emotions and same desires. People might feel appalled by it because it clearly goes beyond the realm of POSSIBILITIES. To love an unanimated object romantically, much more wish to entertain the subject of marriage, is something immoral, weird or crazy enough for the mental institution. Although the love is genuine and harmless, there is always the unfortunate thought of having a one-sided love. If the person already has a twisted reality there is no question what he or she might do next. In short there are two ways to accept this. It’s helpful to understand that this particular love is genuine, but it is also expected to respect that some people might find this delusional and causes psychological alarm.
Here are my thoughts.
There is no restriction on whom the person loves, may it be any kind of love with any object or subject, as long as there is no harm inflicted with himself or to others. But to ask for marriage, something binding or legal in spectrum of reality, is quite useless to me. Why seek for a certain piece of legality when the love is stronger and freely sprung from imagination. What’s the point? Will the character or anime be attached to the “live” spouse and the ability to appear in Manga depends on their matrimonial arrangements? The makers of the manga or characters should feel slightly annoyed with this I’m sure. As complex yet as firm as the exact restrictions of marriage, can it apply to these special conditions? It all seem useless and laborious to me. I’m sorry. I fully respect the love, but I don’t see enjoying it differently by officially putting it into marriage. It would be far too weird. Why make things more complicated? If the phase wears off, is there a possibility of divorce? In imagination everything is free and attainable. Let it not be spoiled in doing the unnecessary.
Tech FYI
I had to pull out my HAPPY November 1 post because from my view, it's completely screwed (Literally). The fonts are messy and it affected the whole format of my November posts.
Just a TECH diary that I keep.
I'm also itching to paste my posts for Oct. 31st to November 2nd. I will have to wait till I get this fixed.
I hope this will remind me.
