Gosh, I don't know about you, but I've been hearing rampant news lately about newborn babies being killed by their own mothers as if it's like a daily weather report. It's kind of disturbing because these reports should be...rare or none at all. Lately, there were 3 reported incidents this week about newborn babies being either thrown off the building or in a moving vehicle. I'm not even counting the not-so publicized stories. Some barely survived and some didn't.
Obviously, the soon-to-be-flayed-alive mothers of these kids, didn't want the pregnancy in the first place. They carry it for nine months, unnerved to get it aborted at an early age, then when they go through the excruciating pain of having it, they take it out on the baby. Unwanted pregnancy gone bad. I'm trying to think of possible reasons why the idea crossed their minds and the act was done. I want to test if they can be in some degree understood and partially pardoned.
Here are the best cause and effects I came up with.
THEY Cannot have the baby because....
1. Rejection. They cannot handle being disowned or having their families disappointed.
2. Public Scrutiny. Their reputation, their careers and their lifestyles may be at risk.
3. Failure of another failure. They know they cannot raise the baby amidst inflation and present economical circumstances.
4. Failure to move on and be independent. Consuming relationship problems, and may have broken up with the father of the child. Hence, the end of the world. Kill the spawn.
5. Port Partum Depression gone mad.
Then you think of...
WHY they became pregnant in the first place?
1. They may have been deceived, enticed and lured to having unprotected sex.
2. They may have failed sex education; and therefore failing to apply contraceptives properly
3. They do know sex education, but do not want to use or have forgotten to use contraceptives
4. They want to please their partners and themselves by assuming to be masters of their own reproductive organs. Que Sera Sera
5. Failure to control raging hormones.
Cross out the effects and the causes and you have an unwanted pregnancy = abortion or murder.
I'm sorry to say, no matter how painful or devastating the situation is, there is no justified reason for throwing their babies off the condo roof, drowning their new born babies in the ditch, leaving their newborn babies in the public toilet, throwing their babies while riding in a moving vehicle, abandoning the child in some trash bin and suffocated the child till it dies. Get a grip. This is purely unacceptable.
If there is pain, scrutiny and rejection, just swallow it up and deal with it. It's hard, I've been a witness to it, but we can all survive. The will adjusts and the heart is resilient. Time will ease the suffering somehow and it's not going to be forever. This is not an unfortunate divine intervention, it's something DONE by the PERSON. Just stand by the wrong decisions and learn. Stand by your suffering created by yourself and be strong. Stand by to look for commendable alternatives and be patient. There are adopting centers. There are couples who want to take on a child. There are professional support groups. There is the human spirit. I know, no matter how hard or jaded the world is, there's a bit of compassion and hope still in left in this world. And mother murdering an innocent newborn child, just because she thinks her life is totally destroyed, is totally unacceptable.
