The Sun Cellular Ad

This ad got me! Ha-ha!

I was in the mood of cleaning my computer files when I saw this picture I've taken of an ad of Sun Cellular or formerly known as Digitel Mobile Philippines. I think I've taken this late last year, but since it was pretty hectic at that time I've completely forgotten to post it. But the mere fact that I took time to take some pictures is worth the trouble and delayed posting.

For a brief background, Sun Cellular here in the Philippines started as early as 2003 and known as the latecomer in the telecom industry against giants, Globe Telecom and Smart Telecom. At first Sun Cellular was trying to gain leverage in the market. It wasn't easy to gain immediate popularity because some people were just plain loyalists, and the connection of Sun Cellular was, admittedly, faulty back then. But as the years went by, they have greatly improved their operations, established various commercial centers and eventually made their brand a household name.

At the first stages of the cellular phone boom, text messages were literally free. But due to some telecom regulations and the machinery of capitalism, Philippines now has one of the most expensive telco rates in the world. Consumers are now charged per text and other packages of Globe and Smart seem very steep for a normal or practical Juan. Here's where Sun Cellular gained its popularity. Sun Cellular offers 24/7 unlimited CALL and TEXT (sun to sun) at a fixed cost. Packages may vary, but once you have identified the right package for you, then it's text or call till you drop:

There is a pre-paid load of Text Unlimited for 30 days which only costs 150 Pesos and that's with free 240 minutes free calls. (Sun to Sun)
There is also a prepaid load of Text and Call unlimited for 5 days (Sun To Sun)
and So on and so forth
There's also a post paid plan, with varying packages with a fixed cost to text and call all you want.

Nowadays, it wouldn't be surprising to know that some people who are flexible enough are managing two mobile phones. One for their globe or smart line and one for SUN. Since having a Sun Cellular line is a very affordable and convenient option for practical people who have targeted practical usage. I use it to call our maid's Sun line to ask what's for dinner; and leave instructions without thinking of every peso consumed per minute. I could check on family members all the time. It's also advantageous for production heads and people who are always working on the phone. Businessmen have also cut down their costs by using Sun Cellular. (They have separate ads for that)

Also, one funny concept that Sun Cellular offers in this culture, is that people who are involved in relationships are encouraged to take an additional Sun Cellular line. It's damn practical. Gone were the days of limited text and calls to your loved ones. Sun Cellular now gives them no excuse to delay updates and important messages that before seemed more expensive and burdensome to lovers.

In connection, the ad that I was talking about earlier, offers a light-hearted yet very true humor for lovers out there. It may be a major convenience for the prying party and may be very unfortunate to the playful ones.

The ad bashes some dark humor on the benefits of getting Sun Cellular, and the humor is very TRUE.

Some may have already seen it, but anyways, here it goes...

*ON THE CELL
From Carla: Ges Hus wid ur guy at dis very minute? (Text Lingo)
Guess who is with your guy at this very minute (English)

* Tag Line 1
Mas mabilis mong malalaman ang balita kung tatawagan mo sya (Filipino)
You'll find out the news faster if you call him/her (English)

*Tagline 2
Go ahead, call her/him nang makalinawan. Unlimited naman ang Sun 24/7
Sa Sun Lang meron nyan! (Filipino)
Go head, call him or her to know the real deal. Sun 24/7 is unlimited anyways
Only Sun has it! (English)
